L4 LAMP — OBJECT LEUCI

L4 LAMP는 은은하고 편안한 빛을 통해 공간의 분위기를 안정적으로 조성하는 데 초점을 둔 조명 장치이다. 광원이 직접 노출되지 않도록 간접조명 방식으로 설계하여, 빛이 부드럽게 확산되며 시야를 방해하지 않도록 했다. 또한 기어 기반의 물리적 디밍 장치를 적용해 사용자가 원하는 밝기와 확산각을 동시에 조절할 수 있도록 구성했다. 이러한 조작은 전면부에 배치된 핸들과 스위치를 통해 직관적으로 이루어진다.

이 장치는 시각적 매력에 더해 촉각적 인터페이스를 제공함으로써, 사용자가 조명을 다루는 과정에서 직접적인 통제감을 느낄 수 있도록 한다. 이는 조명 기구로서의 기능적 정체성과 오브제로서의 장식적 성격을 넘어, 감각적 상호작용을 중심으로 한 새로운 제3의 정체성을 형성하며 사용자 경험을 확장한다.

본 작업은 편리함을 극대화하기보다는 사용 과정에서 ‘불편하지 않음’을 우선하는 설계 철학을 기반으로 한다. 이는 편리함 속에서 종종 잊혀지는 감각적 경험을 다시 환기하고자 하는 시도이기도 하다. 이러한 방향성은 L4 LAMP를 통해 사용자에게 자연스럽게 전달되며, 기능적 만족과 감각적 즐거움이 공존하는 또 하나의 경험적 가치를 제공하기를 기대한다.

The L4 LAMP is a lighting device designed to create a gentle and comfortable atmosphere through soft, indirect illumination. By employing an indirect lighting structure, the light source remains hidden from direct view, allowing the light to diffuse smoothly without disturbing the user’s line of sight. A gear‑based mechanical dimming system enables simultaneous adjustment of brightness and beam spread according to the user’s intention. These controls are operated intuitively through the handle and switch positioned on the front of the lamp.

In addition to its visual appeal, the lamp offers a tactile interface that gives the user a sense of direct control in the act of operating the light. This interaction extends the lamp’s identity beyond its functional role as a lighting device and its decorative presence as an object, forming a third identity centered on sensory engagement.

Rather than pursuing convenience for its own sake, this work prioritizes an experience that is free from discomfort. It aims to revisit sensory experiences that are often overlooked in the pursuit of convenience. Through the L4 LAMP, this design intention is conveyed to the user as a tangible outcome, offering a balanced blend of functional satisfaction and sensory delight.
